GSAB project
GSAB project aims to develop and demonstrate an assisted digital system for navigation in port waters and for berthing maneuvers for RORO and CARCARRIER Ships which allows automatic execution with the highest level of autonomy compatible with current technologies in order to:
Provide to the Master and to all technical staff a complete picture of the situation of the state of the ship and the context in which she operates (wind, current, seabed, ship traffic, …), as well as a forecast of the maneuvers to be carried out;
Ensure an adequate level of safety by removing the causes of accidents due to human intervention;
Increase efficiency by reducing the time required for carry out the aforementioned maneuvers;
Reduce the costs associated with the use of auxiliary boats (tugs), promoting their efficient use where necessary, also through greater cooperation and better coordination between the assets.
In order to test and validate the technology developed, it appears particularly useful to carry out field tests using the facilities that Grimaldi has at the Antwerp Terminal (AET). In fact, the context of the port of Antwerp is representative of the more complex situations in which the system will have to operate, at least in relation to ship traffic.
